AtFlorida Sleep Solutions, Inc, we offer an array of testing designed to identify and treat sleep disorders. The majority of sleep disorders today is sleep disordered breathing, mostly sleep apnea. There are different methods of treating sleep apnea, from CPAP therapy, diet and exercise, or with Dental Devices. These devices, referred to as dental devices or oral appliances, can be very costly, without any added assurance of the effectiveness. We offer sleep testing with the SomnoMed MATRx system.
This is a revolutionary diagnostic system that combines the expertise of a sleep dentist and a sleep physician to identify patients whom will benefit from an oral appliance. This is done prior to the patient spending the money to purchase the oral appliance. It begins with a visit from your physician to determine whether sleep apnea may be an issue. If so, we offer in-lab or at-home testing to identify sleep disordered breathing. If sleep apnea is present, depending on the type and severity, an oral appliance may be recommended in place of CPAP therapy.
The patient will then complete an in-lab sleep study using a specially fit MATRx tray. This tray will allow our trained sleep technologist to titrate the patient's mandibular position in response to apneic events. Once the target protrusion has been reached, the patient is referred to the dental specialist for management of the sleep apnea.
This device is the first of its kind and we are 1 of 3 sleep facilities in Florida to use this device. This device allows for our physicians to predict outcomes of the effectiveness of oral appliance therapy, thus reducing the unneccessary expenditure of devices that will not be effective. In addition, this system significantly reduces the time from diagnosis to effective treatment. In short, it saves patient's time and money when considering oral appliance therapy.
